‘Iron’ Mike Williamson looks set to be the first of several Newcastle fringe players to make a loan exit during the emergency window which opened today.
The Englishman is currently the fourth-choice centre-back behind captain Fabricio Coloccini, star summer signing Chancel Mbemba and Tyneside stalwart Steven Taylor.

It was believed that either Williamson or England U21 international Jamaal Lascelles would be sent on a short-term loan for some regular game-time, while the other remained at St. James’ Park to cover in case of a slew of injuries.
It seems like there is more interest in the experienced Williamson than the supremely talented Lascelles.
Brighton and Brentford had made their interest in the 31-year-old in recent times, but Leeds are said to be leading the race for the defender, claims journalist James Marshment.

More on the loan front as Hull City have reportedly ended their interest in taking 29-year-old forward Yoan Gouffran on loan, says Hull Daily Mail’s Phillip Buckingham.
