Newcastle told to up their offer for Almiron

Atlanta United have told Newcastle United that they must improve their bid for Miguel Almiron.

The Magpies have been in pursuit for the Paraguayan playmaker this January transfer window, after he played a huge role in Atlanta’s first-ever MLS Cup triumph.

Newcastle have yet to put forward an offer close to the £30m asking price that Atlanta want for the 24-year old, and his agent insists he will be going nowhere until Rafael Benitez increases his offer.

Almiron’s agent, Daniel Campos told Paraguayan radio station ABC Cardinal, as quoted by The Guardian:

There are two to three clubs in England that have interest in him, but we haven’t advanced a lot yet,

If Newcastle raise their offers, they could be one of the clubs, but there are other clubs. There are clubs from England, Germany, Italy and Spain that are interested in Miguel Almirón, but we aren’t going to rush things.

With Newcastle, I spoke about the player’s salary, but the club needs to raise their offers with Atlanta if they want to get the player. Miguel Almirón’s value is high, it’s not for any club to sign him.

Newcastle are once again in a Premier League relegation scrap, and Benitez sees Almiron as a target to achieve survival. However, it seems the transfer is off until Mike Ashley puts the money on the table.
