Eddie Howe joined Newcastle United last year on a contract that will see him be Head Coach until at least summer 2024. His departure from Bournemouth AFC has substantially benefited The Magpies
During this takeover, the club have gone from facing tough relegation battles to 7/1 odds of finishing in the top ten in the league. Those invested in Premier League football betting are beginning to consider Newcastle’s chances much more favourably than they have done in previous seasons.
In the January transfer window Newcastle spent a significant sum, signing up Kieran Trippier, Bruno Guimarães, Dan Burn and Chris Wood.
Attention is now turning towards the summer transfer window. Global events have caused some complexity in the market and clubs have been reluctant to sell players in the previous couple of years due to all the uncertainty.
Rumours have begun to fly around about how the Magpies might sign this summer and which players will help them to achieve their premier league target in the upcoming season.
These are just some of the talented player’s Newcastle might wish to consider signing to help secure their future in the premier league:
Matt Targett
The Magpies are expected to make another rather large investment in signing some new players in summer and it seems a deal may have already been agreed in principle to turn Matt Targett’s loan move from Aston Villa a permanent one.
The 26 year old first came through the Southampton Academy where he was named Young Player of the Season in 2015. After being loaned to Fulham, Targett re-joined Southampton before making the move to Aston Villa.
Following a very successful season at Villa, the player joined Newcastle on loan until the 2021 – 2022 season. He has made seven appearances for the club so far.
Newcastle have been known to struggle with the left back position. Jamal Lewis, Achraf Lazaar and Antonio Barreca have not proven as successful here as the Magpies would have liked. Therefore, Targett could be the long-term solution that the club need.
This deal could be worth as much as £15 million.
Sven Botman
Lille Centre Back Sven Botman could be another player set to join Newcastle this summer. He was a prime target for Newcastle during the January transfer window, however a deal never materialised due to Lille’s reluctance to negotiate.
Botman is a Dutch defender who previously represented the Netherlands at youth levels. In summer 2018, he made his debut for the senior team of Ajax, before signing on to a five-year contract worth €9 million with Lille in 2020.

He is now one of the highest rated young defenders in the word, but Newcastle could miss out on their chance to sign him if AC Milan get in there first. Milan and Tottenham Hotspurs have both been in talks with the player, the Serie A side may have the upper hand as they have been in negotiations the longest.
This is a very important time in Botman’s football career and signing up Newcastle could give him good exposure to the premier league.
Jesse Lingard
Attacking Midfielder and Winger Jesse Lingard has been planning to leave his current club Manchester United for some time. In the 2020 – 2021 season he was loaned out to West Ham, where on his debut he scored two goals against Aston Villa.
Then in September 2021 he scored the final goal for Manchester United in a 4 -1 win against Newcastle.
During his career, the 29-year-old has so far made 13 premier league appearances and four champions league appearances. Besides West Ham, he has also played on loan to Leicester City, Birmingham City Brighton & Hove Albion and Derby County.
It was looking as if Lingard might sign with Newcastle in the January transfer window. However, following Mason Greenwood’s suspension the situation changed for the Red Devils and they needed time to stay.
Unsurprisingly West Ham are also keen to sign the player, but with Newcastle back in a strong financial position it does seem more likely that he will choose the Magpies over the Hammers.
Josh Stones
Young striker Josh Stones could be another summer signing option for Newcastle, the 18-year-old plays regularly for Guiseley in the National League North. Stones has an impressive record having scored 20 times in 13 games for his youth team.
He has already proven to be a natural goal scorer and signing Stones could be one way in which Newcastle secure long-term talent for the future of the club. He would make a great investment for the club, but they will have to be quick as both Wigan and Blackburn are also looking at poaching Stones.
