Newcastle United have an injury crisis in midfield with Jonjo Shelvey and Bruno Guimaraes currently out of action. Simon Jones and Kishan Vaghela of the Daily Mail say Eddie Howe is looking to rectify the situation by bringing in an addition midfielder before the summer transfer window shuts.
Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans is high on his shortlist as the 25-year-old is out of contract at the King Power Stadium next summer and isn’t close to putting pen to paper on an extension. Jones and Vaghela believe Tielemans wants out of Leicester, so Newcastle are trying to capitalise on the situation.
Whether the Foxes would let such an important player leave this late in the window remains to be seen, but Newcastle shouldn’t give up trying to sign the Belgian international. Tielemans has created more chances (1 every 38 mins) than Allan Saint-Maximin (49.3) and is a better passer (88.3% pass completion) than Guimaraes (85.7%), so he’d improve the midfield.
Leicester paid £40m for the 25-year-old but will accept £25m for his signature. Newcastle have the resources, but can they get a deal over the line?
