Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Hakan Calhanoglu with Calciomercato saying the Magpies could double their summer spend by procuring his signature from Inter Milan.
But with Eddie Howe preferring younger signings over ageing talent like 22-year-old Sven Botman and 22-year-old Alexander Isak, it’s unlikely Newcastle will make a move for the 28-year-old. They should though…
Calhanoglu is an outstanding player. The Turkish international joined Inter on a three-year deal from AC Milan last summer and has gone on to make 50 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals with 14 assists from midfield.
At Milan, he boasted 32 goals with 49 assists from 172 games, so he’d be a brilliant addition to the Newcastle ranks. Inter have no interest in selling, however, so he won’t come cheap – Calciomercato believe he’s worth up to €100m (£85.8m).
Calhanoglu, who’s already had a hand in two goals from four games this campaign, scored seven goals with 13 assists from 34 Serie A outings last season, so he outperformed every Newcastle player. It’s ambitious, but he’s the type of player the Magpies should be targeting.
