Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon has touched down at Barcelona airport this afternoon ahead of completing a medical with the La Liga giants.
The 25-year-old is set to complete a £69.3 million move to Catalunya after the two clubs reached an agreement over a transfer fee. It is no surprise to see Gordon leaving St James’ Park but it is a deal which has gathered pace over the past 24 hours.
Bayern Munich had also been in the running to sign the former Everton man, with personal terms agreed, but were not able to shake hands on a price with Newcastle. Gordon has instead jetted off to Barcelona.

The player will undergo a medical with the club this afternoon before an expected confirmation from the two clubs, either on Friday or over the weekend.
Gordon’s trip to Spain has been well documented with footage of him boarding the flight, inside the aircraft and exiting through the doors at Barcelona airport all emerging online.
Sport journalist Carlos Monfort shared a video of the player’s agents entering the offices of Barcelona sporting director Deco at 3:24 pm on social media platform X.
That came less than an hour after the video of Gordon leaving the airport. In the clip, the winger can be seen sporting sunglasses and a plain black jumper, waving at the small crowd waiting to catch a glimpse.
Gordon gave a thumbs up and posed for some photos. When asked how he was feeling, he said: “I’m very happy.”
Newcastle United agree £70 million deal with Barcelona
Gordon is set to be the second most expensive player to be sold by Newcastle United, following the £125 million received for Alexander Isak from Liverpool last summer.
The winger bagged 17 goals across all competitions for the Magpies this season but had not been handed minutes in any of the side’s final six league outings as Eddie Howe prepared for the future.
Gordon has another four years left on his deal at St James’ Park but, with the club needing to sell before they buy this summer, the £25 million profit on the £45 million paid to Everton in 2023 was too good to turn down.
A move to Barcelona will certainly appeal to the forward, who was outspoken with praise for the side after facing them in the Champions League with Newcastle.
He said: “They were the best I’ve played against in that sense of the game. To be honest, we are not used to playing against players who can keep the ball in this way.
“We played against top teams like City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, but the way they passed the ball in midfield made it very hard for us to press.”
