- Newcastle United locked in talks for Zadok Yohanna
- Reports suggest Magpies have agreed a deal
- Luke Edwards pours cold water over claims of agreement for 18-year-old
Newcastle United fans are probably tired of hearing Zadok Yohanna’s name, but it appears as if there’s been a twist in the tale.
The 18-year-old winger has earned rave reviews for his performances in Sweden and has quickly become one of the most sought-after youngsters in world football.
Earlier today, we reported on Read Newcastle that Chelsea and the Magpies have agreed a £21m deal for Yohanna, with the player set to decide between the two clubs.
But now, Luke Edwards of The Telegraph has poured cold water over those claims, suggesting that the deal isn’t as advanced as what’s being reported.
Contrasting Zadok Yohanna claims emerge
Yohanna is wanted by Chelsea, Brighton, Tottenham and a handful of other clubs in Europe after making a massive impression in his first season in Sweden.
His lack of top-flight experience hasn’t deterred Newcastle’s pursuit either, with the 18-year-old playing just over 1000 minutes of first-team football in his young career so far.
As we mentioned earlier, reliable reports surfaced earlier today that Newcastle had agreed a deal with AIK.
And now, Edwards claims the deal isn’t advanced or anywhere close to completion, adding that only initial talks have been held with the Swedish side.
This is obviously a massive blow for Newcastle and with Chelsea firmly in the running, they could lose the player to a Premier League rival, assuming Edwards’ information is correct.
We all know how his reporting left the Geordie faithful blindsided when Alexander Isak joined Liverpool on deadline day, so it goes without saying that his information needs to be taken with a pinch of salt.
What next for Newcastle United?
What we know for sure is that Yohanna is surely on Newcastle United’s radar.
The club have adopted a strategy this summer where they target multiple players in the same position, which is evidenced by their interest in Osasuna’s Victor Munoz.
Maybe the Magpies have decided he’s the man they want to sign? Maybe Edwards’ information is incorrect? Maybe other sources have jumped the gun by claiming that a deal has been agreed in principle with AIK for Yohanna?
Unfortunately, we don’t have the answer to any of these questions and the contrasting reports haven’t helped.
However, AIK, Yohanna and all the interested clubs will want to resolve this imminently, which would allow them to have clarity on the situation.
This is a transfer saga worth keeping an eye on, that much is clear.
