Newcastle United want to sign Brazilian international to replace Bruno Guimaraes

Ideally, you want Newcastle United to keep hold of Bruno Guimaraes this summer. The club have pocketed around £170 million combined from Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali moving to Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur, respectively.

Those two transfers should have solved any financial needs that Newcastle United might have had to meet this summer. But despite that, the future of Guimaraes remains up in the air.

Not only have the Magpies already lost a lot of quality, but a ton of experience as well. Letting Guimaraes go right now would be a massive risk. It would represent the 12th-placed team in the Premier League parting with their three best players in the same window.

Yet, Guimaraes has told Newcastle United that he would like to join Arsenal. And in this situation, a transfer is always more likely than not. Who could the club sign to replace him, though?

Newcastle United eyeing Brazilian international midfielder as Bruno Guimaraes’ replacement

If Guimaraes does end up leaving for Arsenal this summer, it looks like Newcastle United plan to replace him with one of his teammates from the Brazilian national team.

According Band Sports, with Guimaraes’ possible move to Arsenal, Newcastle United have Danilo as the favourite to take over the Brazilian midfielder’s spot. The value of the potential transfer has not yet been revealed.

Danilo would be no stranger to English football, having spent time at Nottingham Forest already. He moved back to Brazilian side Botafogo last year.

Danilo has been a standout there. In 24 games in the 2026 campaign, he has scored 10 goals. That was good enough to earn him a spot on Brazil’s World Cup squad and to feature in four games, despite no longer playing in Europe. Now, could it be time for a return to the Premier League?

Is Danilo good enough to replace Guimaraes?

Danilo is just one of several top Brazilian talents to move back in recent years. But he is more than good enough to be playing at the Premier League level.

Is he good enough to replace someone of Guimaraes’ quality though? That is the bigger question here when it comes to any potential move.

At just 25 years of age, Danilo promises to be a good signing for Newcastle United, if they end up making a move. But at the end of the day, their squad would most certainly be weakened if it is Guimaraes that he is replacing.

Of course, let’s not consider the Guimaraes exit a done deal either. It is believed Newcastle United want around £90 million to sanction it, a figure Arsenal might not be willing to offer.
