Redknapp: Austin won’t start for Chelsea

Harry Redknapp has used the social networking site Kicca to promote his theory that Newcastle United is the most suitable destination for Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin, with the Englishman expected to depart from Loftus Road this summer, following his side’s relegation.

Austin has been linked with a move to The Magpies as well as Chelsea, but the former Tottenham manager Redknapp believes St. James’ Park is the better move for the striker to make.

He mainly uses the links with Stamford Bridge to justify his point that Newcastle is the superior destination, saying “he’s rumoured to be on Chelsea’s radar but no disrespect to him he won’t make their starting line-up. They only play one up front and he’s not going to replace Diego Costa.”

Charlie Austin signed for Queens Park Rangers in 2013 from Burnley, and since then has taken them into the Premier League with 17 goals in his first season. He increased his tally to 18 for QPR’s return to the top flight, but even then he couldn’t save his side from the drop and this has led to him being linked with a move away.

Redknapp also believes that Newcastle’s recent signing of Steven McClaren as the new head coach can benefit Austin if he does make the move to the north-east; “he’s a good lad and knows Steve McClaren from when Steve was at QPR and I reckon he’ll do well at Newcastle.”

McClaren joined Queens Park Rangers as a coach at a similar time to Austin signing from Burnley, but left less than three months later.
