Mitrovic Injury: The Latest Updates

An image displaying the extent of Alexsandr Mitrovic’s injury sustained in the FA Cup tie away to Birmingham on Saturday afternoon has been circulated on social media. The image is not for the faint-hearted as it depicts deep cuts across the Serb’s knee following a collision with Blues ‘keeper Legzdins.

Newcastle’s £14.5 million pound man has had his say on the matter in an interview with BlicSport saying, “Thank God, it seems my ligaments are OK…”

It is safe to assume that these “additional tests” will be happening as soon as possible so that the true extent of Mitrovic’s gashed leg is understood. However, around a month on the treatment table is not good news for the fans’ favourite ‘Mitro’.

This setback surely couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Serbian international, who was making a rare start for the Magpies after falling down the pecking order as a result of Dwight Gayle’s impressive run of form. The collision occurred in the passage of play leading to Murphy’s first goal for Newcastle – his first ever FA Cup goal – when Legzdins rushed out to attempt to save Murphy’s effort and in turn, his foot came down on Mitrovic’s knee.

Benitez, on the other hand, was keen to stress that Mitrovic’s injury would not change his January transfer plans and it seems that the Spaniard indeed does have plans for the Striker at the club going forward.

Newcastle find themselves somewhat lucky to be in the draw for the 4th Round after Jutkiewicz missed the opportunity to break the deadlock on two occasions. Nevertheless, Benitez’s men find themselves in the ‘hat’ for the next round and will progress providing they beat Birmingham at St. James’ Park in the replay.

matchday.
