Newcastle eyeing Saint-Etienne winger

Premier League new boys Newcastle United are the latest club to be interested in Saint-Etienne winger Jonathan Bamba, according to France Football (h/t GFFN).

The Magpies join French side Angers, Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen and Italian duo Fiorentina and Aalanta in the hunt for the 21-year-old, who scored four goals in 20 appearances for Les Verts last season.

With St Etienne reported to be keen on sorting a new deal for Bamba, the French international is said to be willing to speak to potential suitors in January, as he enters the final year of his current deal.

A formal bid from Newcastle was upheld, as Saint-Etienne were in the process of appointing a new manager, but now Oscar Garcia has taken the reigns, Newcastle are poised to continue with their pursuit.

Bamba graduated from the club’s academy, and made his Ligue 1 debut in January 2015. However last season, he was loaned to Belgian outfit Sint-Truiden, who sent him back to Saint-Etienne early.
