Newcastle Player Ratings: Liverpool (H)

Newcastle secured yet another important point on Sunday afternoon, clinching a 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

The Magpies headed into the game looking to bounce back after a disappointing defeat at the hands of Brighton last weekend. The Reds, on the other hand, were hoping to secure a win off the back of their draw in the Champions League against Spartak Moscow.

It was a tightly-contested affair throughout, and it was the visitors who struck first. Philippe Coutinho was not closed down quickly enough as he cut inside from the left, and he drove a brilliant strike beyond the reach of Rob Elliot to make it 1-0.

However, it didn’t take the Magpies too long to level proceedings. Jonjo Shelvey’s through ball from deep cut open Liverpool’s defence, and Joel Matip clipped the ball off Joselu’s leg to help Newcastle equalise.

There were some close calls in the second half, but the game finished with the honours even.
