Champions League outfit consider Mitrovic move

Belgian side RSC Anderlecht are reportedly considering a January bid for Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

This comes according to Belgian publication Het Laatse Nieuws, who claim that the Champions League side are pondering their options as they look to strengthen at the top of the team.

Mitrovic signed for Newcastle from Anderlecht in 2015 for a reported fee of around £13 million, after scoring 28 goals in 51 games for the Belgian side during the 2014-15 season.

He left Anderlecht having scored 44 goals in 90 appearances for the Pro League side, but has failed to replicate the same ratio in a Newcastle shirt, scoring just 17 times in his 68 games for the Magpies so far.

Mitrovic is yet to find the back of the net in the Premier League this season and failed to make the 18-man squad for Newcastle’s recent defeat to Burnley, so a move could be on the cards for him as he looks to build up some form ahead of Serbia’s 2018 World Cup campaign in the summer.

Manager Rafael Benitez said that Mitrovic must fight for his place in the Newcastle squad — the Magpies face Bournemouth this weekend and play Manchester United and Chelsea within the next month so he needs to be firing on all cylinders.

matchday.
