Stoke keen on Newcastle forward

New Stoke City manager Gary Rowett is lining up a move for Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle this summer following the club’s relegation to the Championship, according to the Mirror.

Rowett is identifying his transfer targets as he looks to take the Potters back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Gayle performed well in the Championship a couple of seasons ago, scoring 23 goals back in the 2016/17 season as Newcastle achieved promotion to the top-flight.

The Newcastle man would be a strong addition to a Stoke squad which will be confident of rising above lesser competition and rejoin the big boys of English football.

The new Stoke manager is keen to sign players who have performed well in the division in the past and feels that Gayle would be the perfect target.

The ex-Derby boss is also keen to sign his former player Curtis Davies, who was a consistent defensive presence in the Rams’ back-line.
