Diame set for Newcastle contract extension

Newcastle United midfielder Mohamed Diame is set to extend his contract at the club this season, according to a report on the Chronicle Live.

It is understood that the player already has an agreement in place with the club that his contract will automatically be extended if he makes a certain amount of appearances for the club this season.

His current deal expires at the end of the season but he is on course to fulfilling the criteria to earn an extension.

The Magpies have already tied down club captain Jamaal Lascelles for the foreseeable future after he signed a six-year deal at the club.

Diame has started every league game for Newcastle this season and is one of the first names put on the team sheet by manager Rafa Benitez, so it seems like it is only a matter of time till he hits the appearance target.

The midfielder is confident that the club can retain their Premier League status this year. They picked up their first league win of the season against Watford on Saturday and will now be looking to push up the table.
