Sean Longstaff signs new four-year contract

Newcastle United youngster Sean Longstaff has penned a new four-year deal with the club.

The midfielder is a product of the Newcastle Academy and is very highly-rated by the club.

As reported on the official club website, the 21-year-old has signed a deal that will keep him at St James’ Park until 2022.

Rafa Benitez has been impressed with what he has seen from the young midfielder and handed him his first senior appearance earlier in the season in the Carabao Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest.

He has been on the bench for the Magpies in four Premier League matches this season and he is keen to continue improving.

He said:

I’m a local lad, I’m from Newcastle and they’re the team I supported growing up. The fact they’ve seen enough in me – and the manager has seen enough in me – to give me a new deal is great.

I’m just hoping to build on that now, keep working hard and see what happens in the future.

Benitez has seen enough desire and quality from the midfielder during training sessions to reward him with a new deal. The next aim for Longstaff is to start getting minutes in the Premier League.
