Dubravka signs six-year deal – a great move by the club?

Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka has committed his future to the club by signing a new six-year deal.

The club have confirmed that Dubravka has penned a long-term contract extension, keeping him at St. James’ Park until 2025.

Dubravka joined Newcastle on a permanent deal in the summer of 2018 and has been the club’s number one ever since.

Penning Dubravka down to a long-term deal appears to be a great move by the club. He has been in excellent form since joining almost two years ago and has been one of the most consistent members of the squad in that time.

He has produced countless superb performances in the Premier League to earn Newcastle valuable points, although he is also susceptible to the occasional error. Despite the odd mistake, which you expect from a player playing in the bottom half of the table, Dubravka certainly deserves this new contract.

His deal could also inspire other stars at the club to stay, including the likes of Fabian Schar and Isaac Hayden. Dubravka staying is a signal of intent that Newcastle are not willing to let their best players go without a fight, which can only be seen as a good thing.

matchday.
