- Newcastle United player ratings in West Ham win
- Kieran Trippier gets 8/10 on his final St James’ Park outing
- One Magpies star awarded full 10/10
Newcastle United ensured Kieran Trippier played his final match at St James’ Park in a win as West Ham were dealt a potentially fatal relegation blow in a 3-1 defeat.
For the first time in a long time, the Magpies were quick out of the blocks and blew away Nuno Espirito Santo’s side. Nick Woltemade opened the scoring after 14 minutes before William Osula made it two, just four minutes later.
The in-form Osula was at the double after the break but a Taty Castellanos screamer couldn’t spark the Hammers into much action, whose fate is now in the hands of Tottenham Hotspur. Here’s how the Newcastle United players rated.

GK – Nick Pope, 7
Same old story. Some fantastic reaction saves but made some moments hairy that needn’t have been – fumbling a clever Callum Wilson shot after West Ham pulled one back. Will be annoyed to have been beaten by Castellanos strike from so far out.
LB – Lewis Miley, 7
Lucky not to see West Ham awarded a penalty after he clattered into Callum Wilson somewhat clumsily with 20 minutes left to play. Not posed any real problems by the Hammers on that flank.
CB – Sven Botman, 8
Deserved a clean sheet for his performance today. It’s the Magpies’ forwards who stole the show in the first half but a confident Botman performance also made him a standout.
CB – Malick Thiaw, 7
Perhaps a little too confident in allowing Castellanos the extra yard to score that screamer, but no one in St James’ Park expected that to fly in. Had looked imperious at centre-back until that moment but started to show some errors after the goal.
RB – Kieran Trippier, 8
Not an easy final run out at St James’ Park against Crysencio Summerville, who has been on fire this season. Trippier did well to keep the pacey winger quiet and reserved a deserved standing ovation when taken off late on. Thanks for everything, Tripps.
CM – Sandro Tonali, 7
The last we’ve seen of Sandro Tonali in a Newcastle United shirt? The Italian picked up an injury in the second half and limped off – it remains to be known how serious that is and speculation over his future has been bountiful. A trademark confident display in midfield, dropping back to dictate play against the Hammers.
CM – Nick Woltemade, 7
Will do Woltemade the world of good to get on the scoresheet. The German finished that goal with aplomb, arriving into the danger zone at just the right moment.
CM – Bruno Guimaraes, 9
The engine room. So thorough in everything that he does, making sure the absence of Joelinton was not too big a miss for his side. Up for a fight no matter the match. Guimaraes is the number one player who must stay to help this summer’s transition.
LW – Jacob Ramsey, 8
Purring in the first half, pulling off some really neat flicks and tricks. Those are the signs that there is a real player here, but faded as the match went on.
ST – William Osula, 10
What a superb end to the season William Osula is having. That’s five goals in six outings now and it was his best performance against West Ham. A real spearhead, the striker drove attacks forward. Such a threat when running with the ball and finishing so confidently right now. Is he the answer to the Alexander Isak saga?
RW – Harvey Barnes, 8
Another head-turning showing on the right wing, which would suggest the exit of Anthony Gordon would not be that big a drama for Newcastle. Barnes has quietly had an impressive campaign and got his head up well to grab the assist for Woltemade today.
SUBS – Joe Willock (8), Dan Burn (8), Jacob Murphy (7), Yoane Wissa (5), Anthony Elanga (6).
