Rafa Benitez turns his focus towards signing a goalkeeper

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez has set his sights on signing a goalkeeper for the upcoming season, according to The Chronicle.

The Northern side have already signed Jacob Murphy and Javier Manquillo from Norwich and Athletico Madrid respectively. Now Benitez has admitted his plans to sign a goalkeeper and a striker.

There has been interest in Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow from Middlesbrough and a deal looks likely to be completed before the end of the window. Tim Krul is also uncertain of his future at Newcastle as he is training with the under 23’s.

When asked if Rob Elliot would be his first goalkeeper this season Rafa Benitez answered

The main thing for Rob Elliot is to be fit and he’s training hard after playing the final three games of last season.

Two West Ham goalkeepers, Darren Randolph and Adrian, have both been pushed down the pecking order at West Ham due to the signing of Joe Hart and Adrian in particular is apparently of interest to the Magpies.
