Benitez assessing transfer options amid takeover talks

Rafa Benitez has been assessing what to do in January with transfer targets, still being unaware of how much money he will get to spend, as per the Northern Echo.

It is reported that if Amanda Staveley is successful in taking over the Magpies, that she will give Benitez £40m to spend, while Mike Ashley won’t go anywhere near that figure.

With the transfer window opening in less than two weeks, many names are being linked with a move to St James’ Park, including exciting names such as Danny Ings, Daniel Sturridge and David Luiz.

It is also reported that Islam Slimani maybe on the way in from Leicester City, while on the way out, Jack Colback is wanted by numerous Championship clubs, including Leeds United and Derby County.

Staveley has made an offer to Ashley of approximately £300m for Newcastle United Football Club, but Ashley would like no less than £350m. So if this deal cannot be made before the January transfer window opens, it looks like an uncertain few months for the Toon.

It may be so that loan deals are what Benitez is looking at, with him being unsure about funds in the transfer market, and will then looks to permanently bring players into St James’ Park in the Summer when it is more likely that an agreement has been made between Staveley and Ashley.
