Newcastle United Player Ratings: Burnley (H)

An unfortunate own goal from Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow denied the Magpies a first home league win since October, as they drew 1-1 with Burnley.

Jamaal Lascelles powered in a header to send Newcastle ahead, but the uDarlow own goal meant the points were shared on Tyneside.

Debutant Kenedy almost got off to the dream start, the Brazilian curled a long-range strike off the far post – 17 minutes in.

Kenedy continued to trouble the Burnley defence, and the Chelsea man won a penalty after drawing Phil Bardsley to foul him in the box.

Joselu directed the penalty into the bottom right corner, but it was saved comfortably by goalkeeper Nick Pope.

Newcastle finally broke the deadlock just after the hour mark, Lascelles attacked Kenedy’s corner with his head to send the ball flying past Pope.

The home-side should have doubled their lead when Joselu found himself free in the box, but fired the ball wide of the far-corner.

Newcastle were made to rue their missed chances, when Burnley grabbed an equaliser 85 minutes into the game.

Sam Vokes forced Darlow into a fine save, but the goalkeeper saw the ball bounce off the woodwork, his head, and then across the line.

The result leaves Newcastle in 14th position, only a point clear of the relegation zone.

Below are the Newcastle United player ratings from Wednesday’s draw against Burnley.
