Newcastle United Player Ratings: Bournemouth (A)

Dan Gosling scored a late equaliser to haunt his former club Newcastle, who squandered a two goal lead in the final ten minutes.

Dwight Gayle scored a first half double, and second half strikes from Andrew Surman and Dan Gosling were enough to grab a point for the Cherries.

Newcastle went ahead 16 minutes in, Jonjo Shelvey played a wonderful long-range pass to Matt Ritchie who drove a cross into the feet of Dwight Gayle. The number nine then did well to back heel the ball into the back of the net.

Newcastle continued to trouble Bournemouth throughout the first half, who struggled to get into their usual stride.Gayle grabbed another just before the interval; Ayoze Perez latched onto Paul Dummett’s switch and fiercely crossed the ball beyond the grasp of Asmir Begovic, and into the path of Gayle to tap home.

Bournemouth toiled throughout the second half to get back into the game, but their high pressing gave Newcastle opportunities to score in-behind.

Both Perez and Shelvey had efforts from inside the six-yard area fly over the crossbar, as Newcastle looked to add a third. But the opportunities increased for Bournemouth, and they forced Martin Dubravka into a fine save to deny Steve Cook’s header 74 minutes in.

The home side finally converted 5 minutes later; Adam Smith cannoned the ball off the crossbar and past the static Dubravka to cut the deficit to one.

Then, Bournemouth scored their equaliser just before added time; Dan Gosling stabbed Nathan Ake’s pass into the top left-corner from close-range.

The result means Newcastle drop to 15th place in the Premier League table, two points above the relegation zone.

Below are the Newcastle player ratings from the 2-2 draw against Bournemouth on Saturday, at the Vitality Stadium.
