Magpies make contact over Monaco left-back Jorge

Newcastle United have reportedly contacted French club Monaco over the availability of left-back Jorge.

Get French Football news cite Le 10 Sport in writing that the Magpies are keen on signing the Brazilian on loan ahead of tonight’s 5pm deadline.

Jorge has been with Monaco since January of last year when he joined from Flamengo for an €8.5m fee.

He was forced to spend most of the first six months on the sidelines as Benjamin Mendy put in the performances which earned him a £52m move to Manchester City.

Jorge seized his last chance last season, making 28 appearances and scoring twice as Monaco finished runners-up to Paris Saint Germain in Ligue 1.

The defender has been capped at full international level once and was part of the U20 World Cup team of the tournament in 2015.

Magpies boss Rafael Benitez has spent much of the last week looking for defensive reinforcements,

Read Newcastle reported earlier today that a move for another left-back, Pape Souare, had fallen through due to his club Crystal Palace being unwilling to send him to a Premier League rival.

Going into this weekend’s season opener against Tottenham Hotspur, Benitez currently has Deandre Yedlin, Paul Dummett and Javier Manquillo to play at full-back.
