Exclusive: Howey believes Bruce’s tactics not always right

Newcastle United manager doesn’t always set up the team correctly exclaims former Magpie defender Steve Howey.

The return of fans back into stadiums, following the lifting of Covid-19 lockdown restrictions, has brought life and energy back into football stadiums.

Unfortunately for Steve Bruce and Newcastle United, though, the manager and board members were met with some criticism and vented frustrations from fans when they were reunited at St James’ Park two weeks ago.

Now, after two defeats in their opening two games of the season, more and more Magpie fans are beginning to express their disappointment with the team’s performances.

One part of the issue at Newcastle United is the style of football that manager Steve Bruce sometimes likes to play.

Considering the players they have in the team they shouldn’t be losing as many games this season compared to last, but unfortunately, it looks as though the club could possibly be flirting with relegation again this year.

Speaking exclusively to Read Newcastle, Ex-Newcastle hero and Premier League defender Steve Howey expressed his views on the club’s current playing style.

“I think sometimes we can all agree that the way the team was set up probably wasn’t conducive to the way that fans wanted,” he said.

“We’d seen also that there were times where Newcastle just looked like a different team, very much more forward-thinking.”

Despite coming under a vast amount of criticism, fans have seen glimpses of impressive passing and attacking football at times under Steve Bruce.

The signing of Joe Willock for £25million from Arsenal this summer should add more flair and creativity in the middle of the park, with Newcastle fans desperate to avoid a repeat of some of last season’s performances.
