- Newcastle United closely monitoring Pierre Mounguengue
- French youngster could leave in search of regular game time
- Strasbourg and other clubs also in the race
After Anthony Gordon’s departure, Newcastle United’s attacking options have been further depleted, a situation they will look to address in the summer transfer window.
And if reports from France are to be believed, PSG youngster Pierre Mounguengue is firmly on their radar.
The Magpies lost Alexander Isak last summer and failed to replace him appropriately, with Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa not living up to their billing.
Mounguengue is very much a rough diamond, but the fact that Newcastle are targeting attacking players bodes well for their transfer plans.

PSG’s attack is arguably the most feared in world football, with the Parisians making their presence felt by winning back-to-back UEFA Champions League crowns.
The likes of Desire Doue, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Ousmane Dembele grab all the headlines, while the likes of Bradley Barcola and Goncalo Ramos have also made useful contributions over the past two seasons.
Given their current situation, the prospect of a young attacker breaking through at the club seems almost impossible, especially with Luis Enrique’s side also reportedly interested in signing Julian Alvarez and Yan Diomande.
There lies the problem for Mounguengue. According to RMC Sport, Newcastle United are keeping a close eye on his situation, with Strasbourg also interested in securing his signature.
Clubs across Europe have watched the youngster tear through the youth teams this season, with Mounguengue also captaining the U-19 team in the Gambardella Cup final.
Newcastle’s transfer policy is clear
Over the years, the Magpies have resorted to signing Premier League-proven players or those already known on the grandest stage.
Their recent capture of Ewen Jaouen and links with Zadok Yohanna, Victor Munoz and Lamine Camara represent a marked shift in strategy.
Newcastle are now targeting young players and the right profiles for their squad, which is a welcome sign as transfer prices have truly gone through the roof.
Incidentally, a lot of the young talents they are keeping an eye on are from France, so their scouting network is clearly strong in the area.
Mounguengue made his PSG debut during the back end of last season, but a clear pathway to the first team hasn’t yet been fleshed out for him. And if that situation becomes irreversible, Newcastle will be ready to pounce.
