Colback suffers injury blow

Newcastle are awaiting scan results to determine the extent of the injury Jack Colback suffered during the Wear-Tyne derby on Sunday.

According to the Chronicle, the former Sunderland player left the Stadium of Light on crutches and in a leg brace, due to a rough challenge committed by Lee Cattermole.

Colback reportedly picked up a knee injury and although he’ll miss the Stoke game due to suspension, he could miss further fixtures against Bournemouth and Leicester as a result of his injury.

This would be a major blow for Newcastle – occurring at a time where injuries at the club were finally starting to clear up.

The Geordie-born Colback will join the likes of Tim Krul, Manu Riviere, Steven Taylor, Gabby Obertan and Karl Darlow on the register of injured players at the club.

Head Coach Steve McClaren now has a big decision to make regarding the central midfield position – with Vurnon Anita, Cheick Tiote, Siem De Jong and forgotten man Gael Bigirimana to choose from.

It remains a possibility that Newcastle could dip into the transfer market for a high-quality central midfield player come January and any added injuries will only increase the chances of that happening.

matchday.
