Newcastle sack Steve McClaren

Newcastle United have today confirmed the dismissal of Head Coach Steve McClaren.

McClaren’s job at Newcastle has been under pressure for a while from sections of the Toon fans, but after weeks of unacceptable performances, the club have finally made the decision to dismiss the former England manager.

Newcastle’s latest performance was a 3-1 home defeat to Bournemouth, which saw fans vent their anger at McClaren with chants of “you don’t know what your doing!” and “you’re getting sacked in the morning”. Just over 24 hours after the defeat reports emerged that McClaren was set to be dismissed.

With Newcastle only one point from safety with 10 games remaining, it is not all doom and gloom. If performances can be lifted then there is still hope that the squad – that has seen £80m spent on it – can remain in the Premier league.

Former Real Madrid manager Rafa Benitez seems to be the frontrunner for the Toon job, with reports speculating he’ll sign a three-year deal with the club.

Are you pleased the club have dismissed McClaren? Is it too little too late? Who would you like to see take over?

matchday.
