Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic says Newcastle need to forget Saturday’s disappointing away defeat to relegation rivals Norwich City and focus on the upcoming clash with high-flying Southampton, in an interview with the club’s official website.

Mitrovic, who was dropped for Senegalese striker Papiss Cisse, came off the bench to bag a brace on Saturday, but the Serb’s efforts were not enough to secure victory for the Magpies. Newcastle twice fought back to level the game at Carrow Road, but Martin Olsson’s 93rd-minute strike earned Norwich all three points.

Mitrovic now has three goals in his last two games, taking his tally to eight for the season, but he has vowed to focus on a victory at Southampton, rather than personal success. Mitrovic told NUFCTV:
The best way to move on is to win the next game. It will be difficult, Southampton away, but we must stay strong in our heads. It’s difficult now but we need to start winning games.
Our fans were amazing, like always. I hope they will stay with us for these seven games because we will need them now more than ever. With them, I think anything is possible.
Newcastle travel to Southampton next in their battle to avoid the drop. They currently sit six points adrift of 17th placed Norwich, with just seven games remaining.
