Emmanuel Riviere told he can leave Newcastle

According to a report in the Chronicle, Newcastle United flop Emmanuel Riviere is wanted by Hamburg, Olympiakos and Stade Rennes.

Riviere arrived on Tyneside back in 2014 for £6 million, but it is fair to say that the striker’s time at the club has been nothing short of disastrous. In two years at the club he has made only 26 Premier League appearances and scored a measly one goal. He is yet to feature in a game under Benitez.

Newcastle currently have a huge squad, and as a result, they need to clear out some of the deadwood. Riviere can definitely be classified as deadwood and he has now been informed that he is free to find a new club as he is surplus to requirements at Newcastle.

Newcastle are unlikely to recuperate anywhere near the £6 million they paid for him, but if someone offers around £3 million for him, they should take the money and run. Another option would be to send him out on a loan deal for a season with the option of a permanent move .

According to a poll put forward by the Chronicle it seems that not many would be sad to see Riviere leave the club this summer. The poll was entitled “Would you give Manu Riviere another chance?” and a whopping 85% of those who answered clicked on “No”. With his record over the past two years it is not hard to understand why.

matchday.
