These Newcastle fans react to Alonso scoring against them

Newcastle dropped back into the bottom three on Saturday as they lost 1-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Former Sunderland defender Marcos Alonso scored the only goal of the game, as he swept the ball into the bottom corner past Martin Dubravka.

The supposed “foul” on Joelinton in the build-up was subjective, to say the least, and well before the ball even ended up in the net, so there is no need to use that as an excuse.

Newcastle’s defenders were ball watching and allowed Marcos Alonso the freedom of the pitch just inside the box, where he is always going to punish you. It came from where Miguel Almiron was covering, just after he was taken off – which Steve Bruce may look back on in hindsight and rue over.

Chelsea dominated the game and deserved the three points, with Newcastle failing to register a single shot on target. Bruce will know that his team needs to play better if they are going to pick up enough points this season to avoid relegation down to the Championship.

matchday.
