Newcastle send scouts to watch QPR’s Manning

Premier League club Newcastle United sent scouts to monitor Ryan Manning’s performance against Leeds United during the weekend, according to a report on Football Insider.

Manning’s contract with Queens Park Rangers expires at the end of this season and the Magpies are interested in signing him.

The full-back has started every Championship match so far this season and has produced some impressive displays, resulting in many clubs keeping tabs on him, including Newcastle’s Premier League rivals Southampton.

With his contract due to expire, the 23-year-old could be available in January for a bargain price, which could tempt the Magpies into making an offer.

Should they try to sign Manning?

Why not? Manning is one of the best full-backs in the Championship and is still pretty young, meaning he has time to improve and develop.

Newcastle also can’t be assured of a permanent deal for Jetro Willems, who is on a season-long loan. Without Willems, winger Matt Ritchie has to cover at wing-back.

So signing Manning would somewhat solve the left-back problem which the Magpies could potentially face. There’s expected to be plenty of competition for Manning, so Newcastle will need to do some convincing.

matchday.
