Newcastle eyeing up swoop for Habib Diallo

Newcastle are eyeing up a potential January swoop for Metz striker Habib Diallo after scouting him this season.

According to The Express, via NUFCBlog, Leicester are also keen on the forward as they look to bolster their squad.

Diallo has scored eight goals in Ligue 1 so far for a struggling Metz side this season, with Monaco forward Wissam Ben-Yedder the only player to score more than him in the French league this season.

Newcastle have struggled going forward this season and club-record forward Joelinton has managed one goal in 11 Premier League matches. Whilst all hope should not be lost on Joelinton just yet, it could be useful for the club to bring in some reinforcements to ease the load on his shoulders.

After joining from Hoffenheim for a club-record fee, Joelinton is sure to be feeling the pressure of being Newcastle’s most expensive player in their history and wearing the number nine shirt. He’s still young and adapting to English football, so bringing in Diallo could help him and give him more time to settle in with a strike partner alongside him.

Diallo’s goal return in a struggling side in France this season is impressive, although he is also unproven in the Premier League which would make it somewhat of a gamble for Steve Bruce.
