Newcastle United predicted XI: Crystal Palace (H)

Newcastle United host Crystal Palace tonight aiming to build on the massive 2-0 win they secured at Everton on Saturday, which eased the pressure on Steve Bruce.

The Magpies had not won in 11 matches in all competitions heading into their meeting with the Toffees and that run of form had seen Bruce face questions over his long-term future at St James’ Park. However, Newcastle have devised a plan to save his job and give him until at least the end of the campaign, with Graeme Jones brought in from Bournemouth to help out in the coaching department.

Against Everton, Newcastle displayed one of their best performances under Bruce and certainly this campaign. A much bolder team selection and tactics saw the Magpies pose far more of an attacking threat throughout proceedings. There was more support for Callum Wilson, who was able to get his form back on track with a second half brace.

That win edged the Magpies further clear of the bottom three, but they still need to put together a more consistent run of form to ensure they avoid getting swiftly dragged back into trouble. Having won the reverse fixture at Crystal Palace in November, confidence should be high that they can pick up another three points here.

It will be interesting to see the team that Bruce puts out, but he is almost certain to stick with the 4-3-1-2 setup he deployed against Everton, which at times turned into more of a 4-4-2 diamond.

Here is how we think the Magpies will line up against Crystal Palace, with two changes being anticipated to the starting XI from Saturday.

matchday.
