Newcastle fans fume over reported stance on Florian Lejeune recall

A number of Newcastle United fans were fuming at reports from Chronicle Live that the Magpies are not considering a recall for Florian Lejeune from his loan at Alaves.

Steve Bruce’s side are facing something of a crisis on the injury front at centre-back, with Fabian Schar confirming that he will be out for the next few months having been forced off against Southampton at the weekend. Jamal Lascelles and Federico Fernandez are also currently sidelined through injury, which means that Isaac Hayden will likely need to fill in again at the heart of defence.

Newcastle have already named their 25-man squad for the rest of the Premier League season, which would make any potential move to recall Lejeune complicated. However, journalist Lee Ryder tweeted that the club could ask the Premier League board for approval to make changes to that squad, given the current injury issues.

Nonetheless, Chronicle Live claimed that Newcastle are not thought to be considering that option at this stage, which suggests that the defender will remain at Alaves, whom he has helped to keep six clean sheets in his 19 La Liga appearances (Sofascore).

Newcastle fans rage at decision not to recall Lejeune

Many Newcastle fans were left frustrated that a recall for Lejeune was not going to happen and that the option of doing so was not being explored. Others were frustrated that he had been sent out on loan in the first place.
