Newcastle United must move for ‘incredible’ winger following relegation

  • Summerville wants a move away from the Hammers this summer
  • Why Summerville could be good for the Magpies

The summer ahead will be a busy one for all of those involved at Newcastle United, with a multitude of positions set to be updated through both signings and departures. One of those is the left wing spot, with Anthony Gordon all but confirmed to be leaving the club this summer.

There have already been some exciting names linked, with the likes of heavily scouted Antonio Nusa and Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo being the most prominent.

But one name who has been linked in tandem with West Ham’s relegation and could mark an interesting cut-price option for the Magpies is the tricky figure of Crysencio Summerville.

Newcastle interested in Summerville

Summerville is reportedly looking to initiate a move away from the relegated Hammers this summer and could be available for around £20-25m.

Newcastle United are one of the clubs who are said to be looking into a possible deal. It comes amidst the almost certainty that Gordon will leave the club and the recent speculation around Harvey Barnes and Aston Villa.

The Magpies will face stiff competition from teams on the continent, with AS Roma in Serie A and Marseille in Ligue 1 both also linked to the winger.

The quoted fee could be a very enticing proposition, especially amid all of the other positions the club is looking to strengthen this summer.

Summerville may favour staying in England, but the lack of European football will likely pose a hindrance to any possible deal happening.

Summerville labelled ‘incredible’

The Dutchman has turned heads this season with some explosive performances and has been by far one of West Ham United’s bright sparks amid a dismal campaign.

So much has Summerville’s influence been that ex-West Ham captain and former Newcastle midfielder Kevin Nolan labelled him ‘incredible’ earlier in the season.

Summerville could well be exactly what the Magpies need in those wide areas. Howe’s men have struggled for that unpredictability and direct pace that makes an attack dangerous and have thus struggled in front of goal at times.

Whilst Summerville doesn’t provide a direct fix for that and he could do with an increase in direct output, he does have the sort of explosive attributes that could serve Newcastle well.

Gordon has been at his best for Newcastle when cutting inside and looking to make things happen. We have seen many times this season how effective Summerville can be when doing exactly that.

Give him better players to link up with, such as Bruno Guimaraes or a Nick Woltemade, and Summerville could become a serious option.

matchday.
