- Newcastle United linked with West Ham winger
- Eddie Howe a ‘big fan’ of Jarrod Bowen
- Hammers want £50 million for forward
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is a ‘big fan’ of Jarrod Bowen amid links with a potential summer transfer move for the West Ham man.
The 29-year-old is expected to end his six-year association with the Hammers ahead of the 2026/27 season following relegation to the Premier League.
The Magpies have been heavily rumoured to be one of the clubs monitoring a move for the winger, having sold Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for £70 million, and The Chronicle reports that Howe is a big admirer of the player.
Eddie Howe keen for Newcastle United to sign Jarrod Bowen
The outlet claims that Newcastle would be ‘pushing at an open door’ should chiefs pursue a move for Bowen with Howe very keen to have the player at St James’ Park.
However, it’s warned that a transfer for Bowen would blow most of the club’s current spending budget. The Magpies are in the process of spending over £24 million on young goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen, and are expected to add a more senior goalkeeper to the squad before the window closes.
Newcastle could also do with reinforcements in midfield and at full-back, should Lewis Hall and Sandro Tonali leave. That makes the £50 million price tag slapped on Bowen potentially ambitious for the Tyneside outfit – it’s touted as a ‘major statement’ move, should it happen.
Manchester United and Everton are also touted as potential suitors for Bowen, who has scored 65 goals in 238 Premier League appearances.
The Magpies are known to be prioritising more youthful transfer additions but, should the club lose the Premier League experience of Gordon, Tonali and Hall, could do with a more senior figure in the dressing room.
Jarrod Bowen: ‘Newcastle excellent under Eddie Howe’
Newcastle already know Bowen’s verdict on how great a football club the Magpies are. When Howe first achieved European football with the side, ahead of taking on Newcastle that season, Bowen said: “What a game it will be! The way Newcastle have played since Eddie Howe joined has been excellent and they’re obviously playing in the Champions League now.
“For that city and those fans, that’s incredible. Sunday will be a tough, tough game. They’ve started the season strongly as well but we want to win the match.
“It’s the last game before the international break and it’s another opportunity for us to get three points and push up the table.
“It’s always a tasty game when we play them because they play at such a high intensity. They always bring a good away following too so it is set up for a really good game.”
In other news, Newcastle United star will leave for just £5m this summer.
